the best video format for WD player is H264 & X264 & it 1gb & half or movie storage on the hard drive space. , Apple tv uses this format & the picture is sharp on a hd tv & it wont stretch or show Pixel boxes, AVI 700 mb is not the greatest. I did the study finding the best.good luck people

No, unfortunately these media player’s do not record from a cable or satellite source. What you would need is something like a PVR or a TV Capture Card in your PC. However, after you have captured the video onto your computer. You can stream it directly to your living room and play on one of these units.
